VAT Relief on Bathroom Products
Under certain circumstances, we can supply bathroom products without adding VAT to your invoice. HMRC allows us to waive VAT if you qualify as ‘chronically sick or disabled’ and the products are for your personal use. For instance, if you have a condition such as arthritis that necessitates replacing your bath with a shower or installing a walk-in bath, we can provide all the required products VAT-free on the basis of medical necessity.
Common Bathroom Adaptations
If getting in and out of the bath has become challenging, replacing it with a shower might be an ideal solution. You may also need grab rails for stability and additional safety. Another common issue is WC height – upgrading to a ‘comfort height’ toilet, which sits a few inches higher, can make sitting down and standing up significantly easier. Numerous other bathroom products can improve daily comfort, including easy-push flush mechanisms and lever-style taps.
Who Qualifies?
Many of our older customers have long-term health conditions that meet the criteria for chronic illness. The process is straightforward: simply obtain a letter from your doctor confirming your condition, and we’ll handle everything else.
The Savings
VAT currently stands at 20%. On assisted living bathroom products totaling £900, you’d normally pay £180 in VAT, bringing your total to £1080. If you qualify as ‘chronically sick or disabled’, you’ll save that £180 and pay just £900. This represents a substantial saving and is an added benefit we can offer. Large online bathroom retailers typically cannot accommodate the administrative requirements involved in providing this relief.
